Cocktail Card Magic by Bill Abbott
Bill Abbott's "Professional Man of Mystery Collection" Presents...
Cocktail Card Magic
All around you are people that seem to know each other. They're laughing, engrossed in conversation, busy eating and drinking. You on the other hand are hired to 'entertain' these busy people with your magic, and at that precise moment you wish you could be anywhere else. One thing is keeping you from disappearing from the party.
You've been paid to be there.
Walk-around magic, strolling magic, roving magic, mingling sorcery, cocktail conjuring, etc. It has been given many names but it all boils down to the same thing, crashing people's otherwise meaningful conversations and consummation of expensive food and alcohol, with your magic. Praise For Cocktail Card Magic...
"Bill Abbott's Cocktail Card Magic gets my highest recommendation. Bill's objective is to entertain his audiences, use methods that work under fire and he takes the responsibility of making magic fun very seriously. His advice about working walk-around gigs is advice I think everyone should read. It's worth much more than the price of the book. The routines are all top notch and it's easy to see that they have been polished over thousands of performances. The one issue I have with the book is that Bill decided to dedicate it to Bob Sheets and not me. If you can overlook that, buy this book." - Bill Malone - CEO Of Comedy Magic
"I love this book. Bill has nailed the essence of that often awkward position we have to fill. His words of advice on how to handle yourself in that (sometimes) uncomfortable situation of cocktail magic, is worth the price of the book and the routines are inspired. I love it that Bill has figured out that the trick is not the thing... but that it is the 'ringmaster of fun' that is the real reason for us being there. I hope that this way of thinking inspires more of the workers out there to pack lots of visual and fun magic into a short window." - Doc Eason - 2004 Bar Magician of the Year
"Bill Abbott has finally drawn important distinctions regarding performing in cocktail-party settings, doing it succinctly, concisely, and with clarity and good humor. The way this book looks and reads immediately draws you in and makes you care about the 'right stuff' for the ‘right people' in the 'right places.' Add "sharp focus" (your own), stir gently, and serve." - Jon Racherbaumer - Author and Cocktail-Party Crasher
"Bill Abbott's "Cocktail Magic" is one of the finest values available today for the working, walk around performer. Bill's theory on performing in a cocktail environment is worth ten times the price of the booklet. I have been working cocktails for over 15 years and I still learned some very valuable information from Bill's book that I will apply directly to my craft. The effects in the manual are absolute killers. Each effect contains a script, funny lines, great bits of business and smart psychology. The effects are all instantly repeatable with little or no reset, which is of prime importance for the working pro. Bottom line, if you are at all interested in the field of Cocktail Magic, either as a beginner or as a seasoned pro...GET THIS BOOK!" - Richard Sanders - Canada's Other Favorite Magician |
This fantastic manuscript details "the Cold Deck, " an incredible effect performed by the late great Frank Thompson.
The performer starts out by producing 4 ACES which are revealed from four different parts of the deck in a startling array. The aces are openly put onto the deck, then with a convincing shuffle and cut the performer deals 5 hands of poker and He/She ends up with the 4 ACES in his/her hand! At this point the performer and the spectator shuffle the cards which are then cut and immediately dealt in another 5 handed poker deal in which the performer receives poker's best hand, A ROYAL FLUSH. In the concluding effect of this routine the deck is cut into four piles where face up and face down cards are openly shuffled into one another and with one simplified move the deck is ribbon spread and the cards are shown to be FACING ONE WAY! This effect is a stunner!- Easy to perform
- A strong effect using an ORDINARY DECK OF CARDS!
- Four effects in one!

Attention all Wallet Collectors and performers who have come to know Ron for quality and simplicity of thinking!
Announcing the Dayton Wallet Workshop!!! For sometime this simple but clever idea was shared with a select few subscribers to Oracle Magazine. Now, in new forma, Ron shares for the first time with the magic community at large, his Dayton Wallet.
This is a simple Do-It-Yourself project for the magician or mentalist. With a few simple tools and a few minutes of your time, you can create a magician's loading wallet that is charming in the ease of operation and versatility.
Specifically, this is what would be considered a loading wallet, allowing you to load a card, or any small object in to your wallet as needed. It could similarly be used to steal any small object from within your wallet, and peeked at later.
This thorough 10-page color monograph is available as a glossy printed booklet, or as an E book, your choice- It takes you step by step through the process of creating this simple but powerful utility device (And best of all, you can make as many of these wallets for your own use as you like- all for the price of the manuscript!)
But the HOW-TO is only one half of the value of this little gem. The other half is the two routines which Ron has supplied.
First- A deck is riffle shuffled and a spectator is given free choice to cut the deck at any point, and place their cut-to card face down on the table. You do not touch the card at this point. The freely selected card is marked with a sharpie on the BACK and SIGNED by the spectator on the face. The spectator replaces the card on the deck.
You attempt to name their unseen card using your psychic ability (Body Language, finger tip sight or whatever you like) However, you name the WRONG CARD. (Gasp- Oh No!)
Not to be outdone, you take the card (Marked back still visible and showing on the top of the deck) and turn it over, showing that the marked card, which previously WAS their signed card, now is NOT the card they signed, but the (apparently wrong) card that you divined earlier. You toss this card onto the table, commenting- "Of course THAT couldn't be your card...Your card is in my wallet!" (And sure enough, when you open the ZIPPERED COMPARTMENT of your wallet, they can reach in and pull out their card.. Signed on the face, marked on the back!
The tabled card is wiped on your sleeve and the mark that was seen on its back (Now clearly back on the selected card where it started) has vanished!
Now...The BEST thing about this trick is that it does not require any palming, no controlling of the selected card and the spectator will believe they see their card plainly right up until the instant it vanishes! How? As Ron says in the booklet- Through Subterfuge and lies!
The second routine, for those of you who are familiar with Ron's Bizarre writings such as "Darker Light" and "By Darkness Influenced", is a bizarre version of the same routine. Enjoy a story of a Soldier and a deck of cards from the 1800's. Gambling with the Devil's Pasteboards. A treat for you lovers of storytelling and the bizarre.

154 pages of some of Harry's favorite card routines. This book is for the knowledgeable card worker. You must possess card handling skills. The routines require practice but they are certainly reputation making effects!

This book is mainly a compilation of some of the effects Steve invented and used more than twenty-five years ago. Most have never been published. Some effects, such as the Steffi Gaff, Penetrating Eyes, and the Shrinking Deck were invented in the seventies. Others, such as Imagination Deck, Attack from Tiny Town, and Cheshire Card are more recent creations.
Steve was the producer of the Emmy winning children's television show "Dudley's Diner" where he also performed as the on-air magician. After producing that show along with several other Emmy winners Steve had completely drifted away from magic.
A chance encounter with some magic websites in the nineties rekindled Steve's Childhood love of the art. Since then Steve has fallen in love all over again. He now brings both that love and some great magic to you in this 64 page manuscript with over 25 incredible effects. |

This is a great routine using just a regular deck of cards and totally impromptu; in three entertaining phases. You have in your possession a great routine by the late George Blake (written originally in Magigram magazine). George is also giving you here the patter that he used. Just perform the routine as written and the whole thing works itself. The effect needs no set-up and can be done with a borrowed deck of cards. (use your own deck)

From the Introduction by Roy Walton: "I am delighted to write some words of introduction to this major work on card magic by Peter Duffie. I have known the author since he was at school and over the years have seen his conjuring abilities progress at an astonishing rate. While his ideas cover the whole spectrum of magic, he excels when addressing himself to cards and I suspect, like Hofzinser, they may be his first love in magic. His work cannot be praised too highly. Any true lover of card magic will be delighted with the contents of this book and its study. The book will be an invaluable insight to under-standing the construction of fine magic. Books on card magic come and go, but this one will come and stay." Hardbound, 269 pages
