A metal box is displayed. There is a prediction inside. Two decks are placed on a table. One is red-backed, and the other is blue-backed. A spectator chooses either of them (not a magician's choice). The magician takes the chosen deck, and mixes the cards well. Some cards become face up, and the others face down. The cards are spread on the table. The magician removes all the face-down cards to leave the face-up cards only. The remained face-up cards are given to the spectator. Then spectator does the same as the magician did. This is repeated until one face-up card is left. When the box is opened, there found a chip having the same suit and value as that of the remained card.

From the mind of Peter Nardi comes Thoughtless a mind-boggling, two deck triple whammy! The spectator names a card from a red deck. This is removed and placed aside. He takes out a blue deck that has been in his pocket all along and counts through the cards face up – sure enough, there are only 51 and the named card is missing. The card named from the red deck is turned over and it is the missing blue-backed card. The performer explains he was certain that it would be the one named as it was actually the only card in the red deck... He turns the red deck face-up and spreads it – it now consists of 51 blank-faced cards!
No force – the named card is different every time. No R&S and no deck switch – there really are 51 blank-faces in the red deck. No palming is required, Thoughtless is so easy to perform. |
COMING AROUND OCTOBER 20TH. ORDER NOW AT A SPECIAL PRICE OF $33.00. REGULARLY $40.00 When it happens in their hands—
It's an old adage of conjuring:
The strongest magic happens in the hands of the audience.
A lesser-known corollary to this is:
The more that happens there, the stronger the magic.
So what if it all happened in their hands? What if the magician wasn't even in the room? What if only his voice was guiding them... From the radio—or the television—or from far away?—and the magic happened while they did everything! That is what Spain's greatest magician, Juan Tamariz, asked himself. And from this question sprang a body of magic that has astonished vast audiences in Spain and Latin America when performed on radio and television, on stage and close up. It is magic that has fooled both the public and master magicians.
Using only a few playing cards, pieces of paper and other common objects as props, audiences are led through a variety of entertaining processes that lead to their utter amazement. Through clever principles, old and new, combined with cunning psychology and ground-breaking strategies, Juan Tamariz makes magic happen in everyone's hands. He fools people into amazing themselves! Further, as you follow the radio transcripts in these pages, he will fool you, too.
So open this book and join the amazed. Then share the amazement and fun with your audiences, whether they are listening to the radio, watching television or in the room with you.
Follow along as Juan Tamariz tells you to take a few red and black cards from a deck and mix the colors in ways random, chaotic and independently determined. Yet, when you are finished, the colors magically separate! That's right, you perform Oil and Water for yourself and have no idea how it happened—just as thousands of people have done while listening to Juan Tamariz over the radio, on television and in live audiences.
People freely choose a card, lose it in a packet, mix the cards thoroughly, and then magically discover their own selections without knowing how they did it. The magic leaves Tamariz's hands and settles in their own!
This book collects over forty such tricks and presentations, all refined and tested through professional performance. Close associate Gema Navarro, under the guidance of Juan Tamariz, has meticulously transcribed presentations from tapes of numerous radio broadcasts. The transcripts are so detailed, they first let the reader fool himself, and then give him the information necessary to entertain and astonish his audiences, and the tools to devise many other effects that happen entirely in their hands and heads.
Scattered in the literature of magic is a scant number of participation effects suitable for performance on radio and television; and those tricks are sought and coveted by professionals. In Verbal Magic Juan Tamariz reveals the largest body of such magic ever offered, while taking it in new directions and teaching new principles with wide-reaching possibilities for further application. He also shows that this type of magic is just as astonishing when performed close up and for theater audiences. As a final bonus, Verbal Magic provides the largest record yet, for non-Spanish speakers, of what it is like to be part of Tamariz's audience. Here is a long, in-depth look at how a master magician simultaneously entertains and mystifies.

COMING AROUND OCTOBER 20TH. ORDER NOW AT A SPECIAL PRICE OF $37.00. REGULARLY $47.00 Wonder and magic surround us, yet we need a guide to see them. Historically, that guide is the magician—and Robert E. Neale is the celebrated mapmaker for this terra incognita.
This new Neale collection explores the sphere of close-up magic without playing cards. In the process, it expands the borders of magic in ways never before seen. Neale takes magicians at their word when they claim their job is to provoke wonder in their audiences. As he explains in his introduction, "there are many effects ahead that are not tricks, because I am more interested in magic than I am in tricks."
Beginning with the title of his book, echoing René Magritte's famous comment on the deceptive quality of all art, "Ceci n'est pas une pipe," Neale begins to demonstrate how illusory our perception is and how fuzzy the borders are between the real and the unreal. Using uncomplicated sleights and props, he dares magicians to seek wonder in ways that are new and unexpected by both audiences and other magicians. - In Robin's Nest he recalls a youthful mistake and the miracle that resulted from it.
- In Breaking Bread he resurrects an ancient Middle-Eastern ritual that produces an astonishing result and a humorous observation on the leaders of movements.
- In The Treasure Hunt a woman makes a dream-journey to foreign lands that eventually leads her to just the right message to discover an elusive treasure.
- In Countermanded someone receives a chilling message from the spirit world, and the unexpected ability to find humor in it.
- In The First Mystery the true meaning of the events in the Garden of Eden is revealed with only six illustrated cards and an old sock.
- An old puzzle, the Bashful Lock, becomes a metallic con game.
- A color-changing knife becomes the instrument for telling a tale of love and tragedy.
- Three coins bring together a collector with the ghost of Judas.
And further original mysteries are evoked from topological wonders such as the Hypercard, the Trapdoor Card and some amazing origami folds.
In all, This Is Not a Book guides the reader through a world of more than thirty excursions into wonder, surprise and mystery, with full presentations designed for close-up magicians and motivational speakers not afraid of mixing some meaning with their magic and entertainment. This is not a book—it is a blossoming of wonder and new places to find it.

For over 25 years, Steve Dobson has performed magic that runs like a fine Swiss timepiece. Night after night the Dobson magic machine delivers precise doses of the stuff that works to the people that matter. Now we open the mechanism to give you a look at The Works:
The first in a series, this volume starts with a COINS ACROSS that doesn’t quite start as a coins across. It’s everything a worker should be; clean, surprising and reliably amazing.
Even nice guys have to flex their manly card biceps every once in a while. ACES TO JACKS is for those times. The deck delivers four aces like clockwork, one jumps up off the table, goes through the others, and turns over. Suddenly the aces are all backs, then all Jacks, leaving the aces back in the deck.
When the time is right for a packet trick, THE OTHERWORLD POKER HAND has it all. Four cards turn face up one at a time, then the backs change color, from Red to Blue to ? ? ?.
THE PORTABLE HOLE is Steve’s streamlined version of the David Roth classic, in which three coins vanish into a flat piece of cloth, travel through two dimensional space, and arrive together underneath. Done standing, gaffless, and without a clink.
ALL BACKS is four strange cards with backs, but no faces. Just when they’re convinced it’s back, back, back, back, BAM—it’s Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack!
MY FIRST CARD TRICK starts out with you teaching a simple trick, which you do, until suddenly, magic happens. What kind of magic? Just an instant, sleightless, full deck, reverse oil and water that comes out of nowhere. Hey, you’ve got to fool all of the people some of the time.
Combining the best of the Herrmann and Jiggle passes, Steve’s HERRMANN WITH A TWIST is swift, silent and angle friendly. The select few who know about this literally begged Steve not to release it, but he’d rather disappoint them than disappoint you. After all, we promised you The Works.
Running Time Approximately 35 minutes.
"Steve is one of magic's hidden talents. I have seen him work for laymen many times and he always entertains!" - Bill Malone |
Dan Tong is a living underground legend in magic. On this DVD you will see Dan performing stand-up material for a live theater audience. Dan performs a full show from beginning to end giving viewers a rare glimpse at how a professional performer structures an act. Learn the real work on audience management, staging and how to use magic to entertain an audience. Jimmy Ray Paper Tear Performance/Explanation A light-hearted reading of jokes from torn pieces of newspaper results in a startling restoration. Includes complete details on construction, transportation, staging, psychology and handling. Based on the Gene Anderson Newspaper Tear. Egg Bag Performance Only A performance of the Malini egg bag with Dan's surprising finish; honed over forty years of real-world experience. A lesson in magical focus and audience management. 5 Card Mental Test Performance/Explanation Dan takes audiences on an exploration of ESP: Extra Sexy People. Dan displays a prediction. Using the five ESP symbols designed by J.B. Rhine, an audience member freely eliminates one symbol at a time until one remains. The prediction is opened with a flourish and revealed that it matches! Rope Routine Performance/Explanation With plenty of comic byplay with the audience, Dan leads his audience on a series of cuts and restorations followed by a Professor's Nightmare sequence culminating with an interactive finale that blows audiences away when the unequal ropes are tied together, one knot vanishes and the final knot is slid off the rope restoring the three pieces to a single length of rope. Dan pulls out all the stops and uses creative construction to full effect. Incredibly detailed instruction will open your eyes to ideas in rope magic that will fool magicians as much, if not more, than laymen! Hat Tear Performance Only Performed as an interlude in the preceding rope routine, this piece continues the comedy and conditions the spectator for the events to come. Dan has structured the hat tear and added a fun finale that wrings full entertainment value out of a piece often dismissed by magicians. Bill to Wallet Performance/Explanation Dan's finale is a true showstopper with all the lines and business to keep it entertaining and with a finish that leaves audiences breathless. A bill is borrowed, signed, torn (gotta have a receipt!) and sealed in one of four envelopes which are then mixed up. The spectator chooses one, the others are burned and the selected envelope is opened to reveal... nothing. After some initial concern, the borrowed bill is revealed sealed inside an envelope inside a zippered wallet (thanks to Terry Seabrooke) and returned to the spectator with audience acclaim. BONUS MATERIAL - Over fifteen minutes of additional performance with explanations for: Linking Paper Rings Performer cuts three individual paper rings from separate sheets of construction paper. Miraculously they link. 4th Eye Jumbo ESP cards are shuffled by three different spectators and then collected into a pile. A few cards are eliminated and held by an onstage spectator. Performer then reveals each card held by the spectator. Revised Big Surprise Dan's take on a Mike Close idea. Another version of Bank Night structured as a large impossible location finale effect. Bloopers, Trailers & More Running Time Approximately 3hrs |

Psychokinesis is a term that was coined in 1914 by American author-publisher Henry Holt in his book On the Cosmic Relations and was adopted by his friend, American parapsychologist J. B. Rhine in 1934 in connection with experiments Rhine was conducting at Duke University. PK, as it is often abbreviated, is the purported ability to move or influence matter with the mind by means outside the known laws of physics. It is believed to be the most powerful of all of the psychic powers.
Nearly every magician or mentalist carries a Sharpie around with them so spectators and audience members can sign cards, billets, and other items during a presentation. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to have a spectator sign something, take the pen back from them, and create the illusion that you can move the pen with nothing more than concentrated effort? There's no more need for invisible thread and your hands stay in plain view the whole time!
HOW TO MAKE A PK SHARPIE is another hit in the Black's Magic DIY Magic Series of instructional DVDs designed to entertain, educate, and empower you. With a few inexpensive electronic components, some basic tools, and a willingness to learn, host James L. Clark will walk you right through the process to make your own incredible PK Sharpie. It's time to amaze people.
This is what real magic is supposed to look like!

You now remove your invisible mind reading glasses from the spectacle case. After a couple of minutes by play with invisible glasses and you guessing the card wrong several times.
The spectator is asked to read the eye chart on the case. it now reads THE CARD YOU SELECTED IS Every letter has rearranged itself in a BLINK!
Slowly you turn the case around, THEIR CARD IS ON THE BACK OF THE CASE!
NO Switching Cases! Completely Mechanical Marvel! Perform in 5 Minutes! |
Any card is freely named. It is the only card marked with an 'X'.
Notes: Only one deck is used. Any card can be named, even a Joker. No re-setting required. Always ready to go. It really is a hand-drawn 'X', drawn with a permanent marker. It's a new, modern twist on the Invisible Deck trick.
This is what the backs of all the cards look like.
This trick uses the 52 on 1 Deck. But I've tricked it out to make this super-easy to do.
Note: 50% of the time, the regular face of the card is marked with a large 'X'. The other times, the mini-image on the back of the card is marked with an 'X'.
But, either way, the named card is the only one with an 'X'!!!! |
Howard Adams, the well known author of our recent book 666Mentalism, has been known in the field of self working magic and mentalism for years. Often published in Genii, and by the likes of Karl Funlves, Howard is known for off-beat, self working mentalism effects. In 666 Mentalism, he presented you with a workshop of ideas many of which needed you to breath life into them with a presentation.
Well, over 30 years ago, Howard's lecture series features a self published set of manuscripts entitled OICUFESP. 10 volumes or chapters, if you will- each with 20 or so pages.
During our deal with Howard to publish his new works, we also were pleased to secure the re-print rights to these long out of print manuscripts. So, here, in a single, 200+ page volume, we offer you access to these historic routines. Mentalism, psychic entertainment and mental magic- these routines are clever and thought provoking and all have the same criterea- they are FREE of all sleights!
Leaping Lizards Magic is pleased to be offering this reprint of OICUFESP to be followed shortly my MINDESPA as part of the magical preservation project!
HISTORY OF OICUFESP AND MINDESPA
OICUFESP and MINDESPA were all original effects and not based on any columns or other books. Both were published so Howard Adams could have material to sell at the lectures he gave mostly in the Hollywood, California area (self published in the 70's and 80's). His magician friend Bob Wagner (now deceased) also used his books for his lectures. Mr. Wagner took Howards material over to Japan where he gave many lecture. There are only 200 copies of OICUFESP of each of the 10 volumes. Another series Howard wanted to start was to be called OGICUFESP but he never had time to do so.
Howard's column in Genii Magazine purposely ran for 27 issued (2+7=9) 9 is Howards lucky number. The MINDESPA series ran for 12 issues and there were only 100 copies of each self printed for his lectures.
Howard Adams was born in 1931 in Buffalo, New York. He started magic around age 12. He answered an ad that Burling Hall ran in (he thinks) the Conjurers Magazine asking for writers to condense all the card effects ever published to be put in many volumes. He condensed about 60 effects for him but Mr. Hall stopped the project for unknown reasons. Howard spent all his Saturday mornings in Gene Gordon"s Magic Shop in downtown Buffalo and his afternoons watching the serials at the Rialto and Victoria Theaters in Buffalo. This led him in his later life to write the 12 volumes of MINDESPA (a mental serial of 12 chapters). His effects have appeared in many magazines including Genii, Conjurers, Pentagram, Hugards Magic Monthly, The Phoenix, The New Phoenix, Don Tanners The Mentalist and many different magazines that Karl Fulves has published. Currently he and his wife are retired from work and live in Laguna Niguel, California near the Pacific Ocean. Howard is currently spending most of his time going through his notes (thousands and thousands of pages) and continues writing new series of books called 888 Mentalism (88 tricks with 8 cards), 999 Mentalism (99 tricks with 9 cards), 101010 Mentalism (100 tricks with 10 cards) and their sequels, More 666 Mentalism, More 888 Mentalism, More 999 Mentalism and More 101010 Mentalism.
