Kenton worked out an incredible effect for Keith Barry and his television series. The effect is based on a rumor of a trick that Joseph Dunninger loved and considered trying to do.
While it is debatable if Dunninger ever performed the effect, Kenton's methods have been performed now under many different conditions.
Effect: A spectator stops at a random card in the deck or two spectators "create a card" by rolling a pair of normal dice and naming a suit. For example, they create the Seven of Hearts as their chosen card.
A deck setting on the table the entire time is given to a spectator. They are to look through the deck and be certain the card they chose is in this deck. They agree that it is. The performer never touches the cards once the spectators agree the card they chose is in the deck. The spectators are asked to be sure their card is in the deck several times.
The mentalists concentrates and attempts to project the card out of the deck and into (say) the spectator's shoe. The spectators go through the deck that has been in their hands the entire time to find that their card is now truly gone from the deck! "Your shoe is too easy" says the performer, "How about we put it under the carpet or... no... under the plant over there"!
The performer never goes near where he says he has made the card teletransport. The spectators find their chosen card not only gone from the deck, but under the plant - or nearly any odd place you choose.
This is a startling effect. Supplied are both the simple version and the more daring, psychological version for professionals. Either method is stunning. You get all the details as created by Kenton for Keith Barry and himself, and of course the special needed extras.
Use your own Bicycle deck of cards NO stooges or secret helpers. No linguistics in this advertising when we say the performer does not need to touch the cards at all. Both spectators are fooled. No hidden assistants. This may be a card trick, but it will look like the most impressive feat of mentalism and teleportation ever. This is as real as it gets! |
We've got them! A HOT new mentalism effect from the deviant mind of Dennis Loomis! The Dynamite Book Test! Super easy to do and darn sneaky. Read every word carefully. Nothing has been left out. If the description fools you, you will be devastated by the effect.
A spectator is freely chosen, not a prearranged confederate or stooge. You walk to the other side of the stage and turn your back or are legitimately blindfolded. No peeking. The spectator is given an absolutely free choice of one of three paperback books. The spectator picks up any book, thinks of any page number, does not tell anyone the page number, writes nothing down, no force, and the spectator can change his mind as often as he wishes. The spectator opens the book to that page number and thinks of the first word on the page. With no pumping, nothing written, no letter by letter spelling, you name the word. The spectator thinks of any other page number, tells no one the page number, he can change his mind as often as he wishes, and turns to that page. The spectator looks at the last word on the page. You tell him the word he is looking at. The climax is beyond belief. The spectator thinks of any other page number, changes his or her mind as often as he or she wishes, tells no one, turns to that page, and is instructed to look at ANY OTHER WORD on the page. You do not know the page number. You read his mind and reveal the word he is staring at. - No prearranged stooges or confederates. No peeks. No mirrors. No reflectors.
- No force of the book. Nothing written. Absolutely free choice of book and page number at every stage.
- No assistants. No electronics. No pumping. No progressive anagrams. No cribs.

The standard ESP deck of 25 cards containing the 5 ESP sysmbols. Poker Size. Bicycle Back |
ESP Die CipherA Mind Reading Miracle ! EFFECT: A brass canister, lid and die are examined by a spectator. The die has six different symbols, one on each side. While the performer looks away, a spectator places the die into the canister any way he wants, he then remembers the symbol on the top of the die and then covers the lid. The performer turns around, picks up the box and hands it to the spectator, asking him to hold it and concentrate on his symbol. Next, the performer picks up a piece of paper, concentrates, then draws a symbol. The lid is removed from the box and the performer's paper is turned around...The symbols match! Those familiar with Die-Cipher II will love the layout of ESP Die-Cipher! It is simple, thanks to some added modifications on the die. |
Destined to become a part of your act. This two-phase routine has to be seen to be appreciated. It leaves a powerful impact on your audience.
Two sets of colored ESP symbols are shown. You select an ESP symbol from your set and the spectator selects one from his set (Free Choice). They of course match. Stop right now and you have a miracle. But, this routine has a kicker. Using the freely selected symbol you magically transform all the other symbols into the selected one. Strong visual magic.
The innovations made in this routine make it twice as powerful as the classic Wild Card. ESPecially Wild gets away from all alike cards, which cause suspicion. ESPecially Wild gives you two effects for the price of one. ESPecially Wild gives the impression that the cards change to match a freely selected symbol.
This has tremendous impact on lay audiences. There are no difficult sleights and you should be able to perform it after ten minutes of practice.
Comes complete with ten specially printed poker-size Bicycle cards and photo-illustrated instructions. This new printing has all the cards changing into green stars. |
You invite two people from the audience to assist. The two books, The Hidden Canvas and The Tenth Addition, are presented to the spectators, and the first spectator is asked to choose one of the two books. You hand the chosen book to the first spectator and hand the other book to the second spectator.
A third spectator is asked to think of a number between 1 and 100. Lets say this third spectators name is "Tom". You say, "Tom is thinking of a number. That number represents a page in your books. Please turn to that page." Of course they cant, because they dont know the number. The natural and only solution is to have Tom announce his number. When the number is revealed, the first two spectators are asked to turn to that page in their books. Upon doing this, you reveal to both of them what the first word is at the top of the page in each of their books!
The included instructions contain additional routines and variations. |
Up to now, the effect of breaking a glass required the use of a special table, or of a device inserted into a tray, usually of an obviously large size. Electronic Crasher produces the same effect but with a small device that may be hidden in a card case, a packet of cigarettes, a book, or in any other suitable location.
Electronic Crasher is an electro-mechanical device that is 100% reliable. It is powered by two batteries (included) and has a timer that will trigger the event at the moment you decide (a window of 10-45 seconds). |
Spirit Slates for the discerning performer, Dave Powell's Exotic Slates are handcrafted with care from only the finest materials and built to last.
The performer displays two old-fashioned chalkboard slates which are blank on both sides. He rubberbands the two slates together and places a small piece of chalk in between them. A spectator now freely chooses a card and when the slates are opened, the name of their selection appears as if it had been written by the spirits!
Each set comes complete with two wooden slates, the necessary gimmicks and chalk. The slates are 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" |
The performer tears a few pages from a current copy of Time, Business Week, or Newsweek magazine, giving the pages to people in the audience. They pass them on to others, ensuring a random selection of helpers. The Mentalist, with two of the helpers, illustrates how our eyes are attracted by the clever placement of text or graphics in almost all magazine editorials and ads.
One participant's page is torn into more than a dozen pieces to guarantee a random outcome by eliminating any bias resulting from the page layout. Obviously, every scrap has totally different printed content on both sides. While the mindreader's back is turned, the participant freely discards all but one piece which he holds between his forefinger and thumb for everyone (except the Mentalist) to see.
After verbally ensuring that the helper can read numerous words and phrases on the scrap of paper, and while the performer's back remains turned toward the participant, he says, "I am visualizing part of a word but it's somewhat obscured by your thumb. Move your thumb over, please. That's better. Would you please read for the first time that which Business Week printed on the piece of magazine page you chose. I believe the word " soared " was under your thumb. Is that correct?" He exclaims, " YES !" - No stooges
- No assistants
- No pre-show work
- No sleights
- No switches
- No writing
- No mirrors
- Nothing added or taken away
- Helper can stand across the room
- No electronics
- Unbreakable
- Not the same words every time
- Fully examinable, even the discarded scraps!

A spectator is offered two books. No force! The books can be completely examined. The performer holds the book so he cannot see the front and riffles through the pages until the spectator calls STOP. Any page can be selected! The spectator is asked to look at the first word on their chosen page. Once this is done the book is closed and placedaside. The performer immediately knows the chosen word. EASY TO DO! No memorization. No forcing. Can be repeated over and over with a different outcome. |
This trick is actually two mentalist effects in one! The set includes, two classic effects revisited and improved...Flight Plan, and Clues.
Flight Plan: This is a mental mystery that is entertaining, uses lots of audience participation and should appeal to those who seek the unusual in their mentalism.
The mentalist invites three spectators to join him on stage. They are each given an envelope containing their "Flight Instructions." A set of "Point of Departure" cards are mixed and each spectator randomly selects a card to determine their "point of departure." While the mentalist's back is turned, the spectators open their Flight Instruction envelopes and match their point of departure with the "point of departure" in their flight instructions. This tells them what flight to take. Then they pick up their tickets at the table on stage.
Turning around, the mentalist proclaims the first spectator's departure and destination locations. The spectator displays his departure and destination cards from the ticket envelope and they match the performer's impression. This is repeated with the second and the third spectator, and each time the mentalist correctly names their point of departure and also their destination. This really is an example of mental flight.
"I love the idea in Flight Plan, the simplicity and cleanness of not needing to ask a single question to arrive at your reading is so diabolical and hands off. Also your conversion information makes it extremely adaptable to nearly any situation. Good work" - Banachek
Clues: With clues, each of three spectators selects a card making him or her one of the three main characters. Then each spectator pockets one of the five exhibits (murder weapons). Then, you playing the role of the Mental Detective, determine who the victim is and how he was killed. The victim's pocketed weapon is considered to be the murder weapon. Then you find the murderer and expose him and the weapon that he is carrying.
All the props necessary for theses effects are included. |
We all want to believe that we are in control. We want to believe that our decisions are our own. But maybe those are just beliefs....
You begin by removing a small piece of paper from a cloth bag and handing the bag to a helper. You explain that you'd like their help in an experiment involving free will. Your helper removes three wooden disks from the inside of the bag. Each disk has a simple geometric shape on one side. The helper mixes up the disks and then places them face down on the table.
The helper now chooses one disk for himself, one for the performer, and one to be put back in the bag. The choices are always up to the helper and they may change their mind before they commit to the selections.
You now ask one final question to the helper, "Did you feel every choice you made was of your own free will?" The helper responds, "Yes." The helper now opens the piece of paper which has been on display before ANY choices were made and it explains with complete accuracy where each of the symbols is now located!
A terribly unnerving reminder that the choices we make may not always be our own! |
A small wooden box and three brightly colored crocheted balls are handed out for examination. The balls are placed on top of the box and a spectator is asked to pick up one of the balls (no force) then replace it on top of the box. This is done while the magicians back is turned. The spectator is then given all three balls and asked to place them inside the box. The magician closes the lid and gives the box to a spectator to hold. For the first time the color of the ball is revealed. The box is opened and the selected ball is gone! The magician reaches into his pocket and removes that ball. |
You show a beautiful necklace made of "poppit beads" and give it to the audience to be examined.
Then ask anyone to call a number. You pull the necklace apart showing a long string of beads and give it to the spectator. Then ask him to pull on the ends of the necklace and the string breaks at the exact chosen number. You can repeat the effect with different numbers. |
